NEW BRUTALISM / LDN

What is Brutalism?

Raw concrete. Honest structure.

A movement of the mid-20th century defined by exposed materials, strong geometries, and social ambition. In London, it shaped entire districts—from housing to culture.

Brutalism, from the French ‘béton brut’ (raw concrete), celebrates surface and structure. In the UK it became a language for civic ambition and mass housing. Its legacy is contested, but enduring.
